About
Calm, practical, parent-first.
Parent Tech Safety Hub is an independent, plain-English online safety resource for parents and carers. It brings together practical information to help families understand children’s digital lives, start conversations and know where to turn when they need help.
Why Thomas created this guide
Thomas Tinker is a parent and works in the digital space. He created this guide to raise awareness of the issues families can face online and make useful information easier for other parents to find.
His aim is to help parents feel better informed and more comfortable talking with their children about technology. The guide brings together sources, practical steps and links to organisations that can offer specialist support when it is needed.
Understanding technology and finding balance
This guide is here to help parents understand technology and use it better with their children, not to encourage a blanket ban. Technology can be part of learning, creating, playing and keeping in touch.
Balance matters. We encourage families to make room for sleep, movement, schoolwork, friendships and time together, and to notice when screen use starts taking their place. What a child is doing online, their age and how it fits into their day all deserve attention alongside the hours spent.
The aim is to build understanding and agree sensible boundaries together, so children can enjoy technology and learn to use it responsibly.

How we write
Balance and better use
We help families make thoughtful choices about technology, with room for learning, creativity and connection alongside sleep, movement and time together.
Trusted sources first
Guidance is based on reputable child protection organisations, regulators, medical bodies and platform safety documentation.
No fear without action
If we name a risk, we tell you what to do about it. Same page, same scroll.
Age-specific advice
What helps a 7-year-old isn’t what helps a 16-year-old. Age guides distinguish the needs of younger children and teenagers.
Trust over surveillance
We encourage conversation with your child alongside appropriate device controls.
Clear escalation routes
Where harm is serious, we point straight to the right reporting service.
Reviewed openly
Dates describe the checks completed. A wording review is not a clinical review or proof that every platform setting is current.
Review scope
On 21 September 2026 we reviewed official help and reporting routes, app guidance, screen-time evidence and setup checklists. We corrected unsupported statistics and removed evidence summaries we could not substantiate. This is a source-based editorial review, not a test of every app setting or a guarantee that every claim is current. The glossary explains possible meanings; its examples do not measure popularity or establish anyone’s intentions.
This pilot has not been independently reviewed by a safeguarding or clinical professional. Follow the linked official services for individual advice and check current platform instructions before changing settings.
This site is owned and published by Thomas Tinker. It is an educational guide for parents and carers, not a personal advice or reporting service.
